home warranties for appliances

I called, but that vendor did not work on residential properties, so I had to go back to Select for the name of another vendor. It took 3 calls to finally speak to someone and was told someone would call me back to set up an appointment to meet me at my house. I contacted Select on 01/05/15 and informed them that I had not heard back from their vendor. They responded on 01/06/15 that my claim was approved. I informed them that I didn't even know what was wrong with the pump as the vendor never contacted me or met me at my property. I was told they would look into it and then told the vendor said my 2 year old pump needed replacing and I needed to contact the vendor. I tried but had no response and I wasn't having any work done until I knew exactly what the problem was and the cost. Select said I could have my own vendor do the work, which I did. I applied for my $150 on 03/09/15 and sent back the requested paperwork. When I contacted Select today, they said they did not receive my signed release, so I emailed it to them to 2 different email addresses. I received an email stating my paperwork had been received and it would be 30 days.

In many cases, at least in the United States, a home warranty is not a warranty at all, but rather a home service contract that covers the repair and/or replacement costs of home appliances, major systems such as heating and cooling, and possibly other components of a home, structural or otherwise. The home service contract generally covers home systems such as the home’s plumbing or electrical, and appliances like dishwashers that fail from old age/normal wear and tear. Coverage varies significantly across home warranty companies. Home warranty contracts do not cover all home repairs. Basic home warranty coverage includes the main systems of the home and certain appliances. Most companies cover plumbing, electrical, heating systems, as well as refrigerators, dishwashers, and Microwave ovens. Some charge additional coverage for appliances such as clothes washers and clothes dryers. A home warranty company will pay for the cost to repair or replace the system or appliance, as long as it has broken down from normal wear and tear. If the system or appliance failed because it wasn’t maintained the water heater was not flushed or the fridge’s evaporative coils were not cleaned, most home warranty contracts will not cover the cost to repair or replace it. Home warranties exist to repair or replace old worn out systems that have been properly cared for by the homeowner. Buyers should read the home warranty contract carefully to understand coverages, limitations, and exclusions.
