Tips for Picking the Right Shapewear

Does your body shape make you lose confidence and lower your self-esteem? Well, with shapewear, you don’t have to fret about that as it can make you look and feel slimmer and sleeker regardless of what you wear on top. Experts at Elle Courbee explain if you have never tried it before, then you’re in for a treat.

Initially, shapewear used to be too tight and would always push the belly fat in the wrong way. Sophia Banks Coloma, a Los Angeles celebrity stylist, shared a story where she had gone on a date and had to remove her shapewear due to discomfort.

If you wear it in the right manner, shapewear should not get in the way of your regular day. According to image consultant Milena Joy, shapewear comes in varying levels, primarily light and ultra slimming. You do not have to settle for something that will completely change your shape. Nowadays, shapewear designs and styles help you pick the areas you wish to target, including stomach, thighs, bottom, etc.

That being said, here are a few tips to ensure you get the right shapewear for your body and needs:

Pick the Right Fit

Even though shopping online is pretty convenient, you need to visit a store and try out various designs and brands before making the final decision. If you are buying for a specific outfit, take it with you. A quick waist and hip measurement can help ensure you are looking at an ideal size.

Be Realistic

Shapewear can help smooth out the lumps and lend a sleek look. However, going down a size will not allow you to get into a smaller dress. Ladies try to size down sometimes in order to add firmness, but this only makes them look bigger due to the bulges and can also be very uncomfortable.

Wearing shapewear that’s too tight can compress your nerves and organs, which leads to health issues, says Orly Avitzur, a neurologist and medical advisor for Consumer Reports.

Orly Avitzur says that during her practice, she has come across patients who experience numbness and tingling in the hip to knee region, the primary cause being tight clothing such as skinny jeans and body shapewear.

Not Meant for Special Occasions

You can rock shapewear wherever you wish as long it is comfortable. This includes going to work. The right shapewear can boost our self-esteem and confidence, making you even more productive at work.

According to Melina Joy, you should pay close attention to the comfort levels if you wear shapewear on a daily basis. If you are hesitant of going to the bathroom because the garment is too hard to remove, you might be putting yourself at risk of urinary tract infection (UTI).

Creating a Shapewear Wardrobe

Joy recommends starting with the basics such as a slip dress, mid-thigh shaper, and something more specialized such as underwear. You can create the shapewear wardrobe as you create the conventional one for better results.

For more flexibility, it’s advisable to pick body shaping garments that are close to your skin tone. If you think the garments will flatten your bottom, consider a behind-boosting style. There’s an array of options to ensure you pick the right one for you.
